AE Solar has introduced new bifacial solar modules specifically designed for vertical installations and agrivoltaic projects. The CMD-L144BD modules, part of the Terra series, provide a power output ranging from 560 W to 580 W and can achieve an impressive backside power gain of up to 10%.
These modules utilize n-type tunnel oxide passivated contact (TOPCon) technology, which enhances energy performance and durability across various applications, especially in agrivoltaic settings. According to the manufacturer, the vertical setup allows for easier maneuverability of agricultural machinery, lowers mounting system costs, and minimizes dust accumulation on the panels.
Each module is constructed with 144 half-cells, offering an efficiency rate between 20.62% and 21.36%. They are encased in a 30mm anodized aluminum alloy frame and feature a 2.0 mm glass cover. Measuring 1.19 meters in width, 2.3 meters in height, and 30 millimeters in thickness, each panel weighs 33 kg and can operate within a temperature range of -40°C to 85°C.
The innovative interconnection design has repositioned the junction boxes and cables to the edges of the modules, while optimized framing technology has reduced self-shading from the rear-side solar cells. These advancements have increased the bifaciality of the modules, resulting in an energy yield improvement of up to 3.3% compared to standard PV modules, ultimately leading to a lower levelized cost of energy (LCOE).
