On April 20, 2025, at 10:00 AM, the “Advanced Energy Storage Battery Materials Development Forum” was successfully held, organized by the National Key Laboratory of Material Composite New Technology at Wuhan University of Technology. The theme of the forum, “Promoting Energy Transition, Empowering a Green Future,” brought together leading scholars such as Professor Li Fujun from Nankai University, Professor Zhou Guangmin from Tsinghua University, Professor Wang Jiexin from Central South University, and Professor Zhang Qiaobao from Xiamen University. They gathered to discuss cutting-edge technologies in the energy storage field and promote the innovative development of advanced energy storage battery materials in China.
The forum was chaired by Professor Mu Shichun from Wuhan University of Technology. Professor Li Fujun, a recipient of the National Outstanding Youth Fund, reported on his research group’s progress in high-energy-density metal-air batteries and low-cost sodium-ion batteries. They achieved significant breakthroughs in enhancing the cycling life of metal-air batteries and the industrialization of sodium-ion batteries.
Next, Professor Zhou Guangmin, a national overseas high-level youth talent from Tsinghua University’s Shenzhen International Graduate School, introduced the latest research developments from his group regarding the repair and high-value recycling of failed lithium-ion battery electrode materials. Their innovative work provides new insights into the efficient recycling of battery materials.
Following this, Professor Wang Jiexin, a recipient of the National Excellent Youth Fund from Central South University, discussed the latest research results from his team on the design and development of key materials for lithium (sodium) batteries, as well as the physical and chemical metallurgy of strategic resources like lithium nickel oxide. He highlighted advancements in ultra-stable nickel-rich cathode interfaces.
Finally, Professor Zhang Qiaobao from Xiamen University, also a recipient of the National Excellent Youth Science Fund, shared the latest findings from his research team on high-energy-density secondary battery electrode materials. The innovative materials developed offer a solid foundation for the advancement of next-generation energy storage devices.
Throughout the forum, scholars shared their latest research results, sparking new ideas and identifying new research directions. During a dedicated interactive session, students and faculty eagerly seized the opportunity to engage with top scholars, asking numerous questions. In closing, Professor Mu Shichun provided a brief summary of the forum, expressing hope for the emergence of more innovative ideas from such events to drive the innovation and development of advanced energy storage battery materials.
