ACT-ion Announces Anthony Thurston as Chief Operating Officer
DALLAS, Feb. 19, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — ACTion Battery Technologies, Inc. (“ACT-ion”) has appointed Anthony Thurston as its new Chief Operating Officer. With decades of experience in diverse cathode active materials (CAM), Thurston has held several technical leadership positions at renowned companies such as Tesla, BASF, and Apple. This strategic move comes as ACT-ion accelerates the commercialization of its innovative manufacturing process.
Thurston previously spent five years at Tesla, where he led global operations for Tesla’s Cathode Materials and Manufacturing, including the high nickel cathode Gigafactory in Austin, Texas. Before his tenure at Tesla, he held significant Research and Development leadership roles at both Apple and BASF.

In his new role, Thurston will oversee the development of ACT-ion’s pilot facility in Dallas, Texas. This facility is crucial for validating the company’s continuous process technology with automotive and grid storage partners. It will showcase ACT-ion’s capability to produce chemistry-agnostic single crystal CAM at scale.

Thurston’s appointment follows the company’s Pre-Series A funding round, which was led by BASF Venture Capital and included participation from Hunt Energy Enterprises, Mirae Asset Capital, Arosa Capital Management, and LG Technology Ventures.
