The academic seminar for the “Energy, Environment, Science and Technology” project at the Asian Campus was held in Fukuoka, Japan, from March 22 to 25, 2025. The event was hosted by Kyushu University and brought together numerous experts and scholars from Kyushu University (KU), Pusan National University (PNU), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), and Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on various cutting-edge fields, including energy environment, mechanical engineering, materials science, chemical engineering, and physical materials, while actively exploring new directions for future international collaboration.

Shanghai Jiao Tong University placed great importance on this seminar, sending an academic delegation comprising Professors He Yiliang, Hang Tang, Liu Canhua, Jiang Zhi, and Zhou Lin. The delegation also included Wang Qian, the Director of the International Office of the Graduate School, and Chen Boqiao, the project execution supervisor. At the beginning of the conference, a solemn opening ceremony was held where Professor MIYAZAKI Takahiko, the Asian Campus Project Director from Kyushu University, delivered a warm welcome to all attending professors and teachers from various countries.

Following this, Wang Qian, the project leader from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, gave an important speech detailing the university’s significant contributions to the Asian Campus project and outlining the vision for future developments, setting an exciting tone for the seminar.

During the academic presentation segment, five professors from Shanghai Jiao Tong University shared their research outcomes, showcasing the university’s strong foundation in scientific research. Each professor delivered a ten-minute presentation on their areas of expertise, focusing on cutting-edge topics such as low-carbon technology and advanced materials. The presentations not only highlighted the latest research findings but also incorporated innovative research ideas and methodologies, sparking significant interest among the attending scholars.

The lively discussions that followed facilitated the exchange of diverse ideas, providing new inspiration and direction for interdisciplinary academic research and international collaboration.

The session featuring representatives from dual-degree students across four countries was equally noteworthy. Although the student representatives participated online, their enthusiasm for sharing their experiences was palpable. They actively discussed their learning experiences within the Asian Campus project, reflecting on their current academic and personal journeys, and providing a unique perspective on the positive impact of the project on their academic growth and personal development.

Yang Jun, a distinguished graduate from the School of Environment, delivered the closing remarks, sharing his insights from participating in the dual-degree program and bringing the seminar to a successful conclusion. Liu Yuexiao, another outstanding dual-degree graduate from the School of Materials, participated in the on-site awarding ceremony for the degree certificates and Asian Campus project certificates, sharing his reflections and learning experiences from the program.

The PDCA meeting was a significant agenda item for this Asian Campus seminar, where representatives from the four universities engaged in thorough discussions on key topics, including the status of dual-degree graduates in March 2025, recruitment of new students, COIL courses, the fourth phase of the Asian Campus, and preparations for the summer school in 2025. Through extensive exchanges, the parties reached several important agreements.

This seminar proved to be highly beneficial for the Shanghai Jiao Tong University delegation, as the academic achievements of the university received high recognition from international peers, effectively showcasing the university’s research strength in interdisciplinary and cutting-edge fields. Pusan National University plans to visit Shanghai Jiao Tong University for academic exchanges, further enhancing the academic collaboration between the two institutions.

Additionally, the conference discussed preparations for the upcoming summer school hosted by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, with the four universities collaborating on course development, student selection, logistical arrangements, and more.

This meeting advanced the consensus among the four Asian Campus universities on collaborative mechanisms for joint research, student and faculty exchanges, and dual-degree programs. The alumni network was also expanded, significantly enhancing international cooperation.

The Asian Campus academic seminar and alumni reflection event not only provided a broad platform for academic exchanges among the universities but also facilitated important interactions for Asian Campus alumni. It marked a milestone in the development of the Asian Campus project and robustly promoted international academic cooperation to new heights, injecting new momentum into the development of relevant fields.
