24M Technologies Introduces Eternalyte for Enhanced Charging Speed and Cold Weather Performance

24M

24M Technologies has introduced a new electrolyte called Eternalyte, specifically designed to facilitate faster charging and enhance performance in cold weather conditions. This innovative electrolyte significantly boosts ionic conductivity, which is the speed at which ions travel between a battery’s anode and cathode. According to 24M Technologies, Eternalyte offers up to three times the conductivity of traditional electrolytes, allowing for charging rates that are four times higher without compromising energy density, regardless of the battery chemistry.

In addition to its impressive ionic conductivity, Eternalyte functions effectively across a broad temperature spectrum, greatly improving battery performance in cold environments. Conventional batteries typically lose about 25% of their capacity at 0°C, and even more at lower temperatures. In contrast, Eternalyte maintains nearly full capacity at 0°C and retains over 80% capacity at -40°C, addressing significant challenges faced by electric vehicles (EVs) in wintery conditions.

Naoki Ota, the president and CEO of 24M Technologies, stated, “The breakthrough of Eternalyte electrolyte addresses some of the most pressing challenges associated with lithium-ion batteries today. With rapid charging, exceptional low-temperature performance, and long cycle life for lithium-metal and other high energy density chemistries, Eternalyte delivers remarkable performance for various applications, from EVs to consumer products. It paves the way for next-generation batteries, including lithium metal, which can achieve a driving range of 1,600 km and years of reliable service.”

Originally developed for lithium metal batteries, Eternalyte is also compatible with silicon and graphite-based batteries used in high-power and low-temperature applications. It supports rapid charging and offers an extended cycle life. Furthermore, it can be seamlessly integrated into existing manufacturing processes and combined with 24M’s Impervio separator to enhance battery safety and durability.

In related news, LEM has recently launched a new current sensing unit aimed at improving battery management in electric vehicles (EVs).
