2025 Shanghai Auto Show | Joint Launch! A new electric sedan from Audi takes on its gasoline counterpart in a display of advanced technology. On May 8, 2025, at 12:04 PM, the 21st Century Economic Report highlighted the captivating competition between electric and gasoline vehicles at the event.
The highlight of the show was the debut of Audi’s Q6L e-tron, a fully electric model built on the PPE platform, alongside the gasoline-powered A5L. This dual reveal showcased Audi’s commitment to both electric and hybrid technologies, aiming to capture a significant share of the high-end market segment.
The Q6L e-tron features an innovative heating system that can operate efficiently even in extreme temperature ranges of -10°C to -20°C, allowing it to maintain a driving range of up to 30 km in cold conditions. Moreover, at -10°C, it can sustain power for 18 minutes. Its regenerative braking system is optimized to provide a maximum power recovery capability of 220 kW, with a remarkable 95% efficiency during normal driving conditions.
Technologically advanced, the Q6L e-tron utilizes cutting-edge features, including an impressive array of sensors and communication systems that enhance driver assistance and safety. The vehicle’s electric architecture is complemented by an 800V battery system, enabling rapid charging with a peak output of 270 kW, allowing for a 294 km range in just 10 minutes.
Based on the PPC (Premium Platform Combustion) architecture, the gasoline-powered A5L serves as a benchmark for performance and efficiency, featuring a robust EA888 Evo5 engine capable of delivering up to 200 kW. The engine’s integration of variable geometry turbocharging enhances response times and overall efficiency.
In terms of market performance, Audi reported a 7.6% decrease in sales, totaling 645.32 billion yuan. In contrast, Mercedes-Benz and BMW faced similar declines, with sales dropping by 8.4% and 4.5%, respectively. In the Chinese market, Audi delivered 649,000 vehicles, reflecting a 10.9% decline.
Looking ahead, Audi aims to achieve a revenue target of 350 billion yuan by 2025, with plans to launch 20 new electric models, reinforcing its commitment to electric mobility. From 2026 onwards, all new models introduced will be electric, with gradual phase-out plans for gasoline-powered vehicles, aligning with global trends toward electrification in the automotive industry.
As we move toward 2025, Audi, along with other leading brands like Mercedes-Benz and BMW, is set to redefine the future of mobility with innovative electric vehicles that promise cutting-edge technology and sustainability.
