Recently, the 2025 New Energy Safety Technology Conference was held at Tsinghua University, organized by the School of Vehicle and Mobility at Tsinghua University and the Key Laboratory of Safety for Energy Storage and Power Batteries under the State Administration for Market Regulation. The conference was co-chaired by Xiaoling Wen, a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and professor at University of Surrey, along with Minggao Ouyang, a professor at Tsinghua University. Over 400 experts, scholars, representatives from research institutions, and industry leaders attended the event.

Experts at the conference engaged in professional discussions on cutting-edge topics related to multi-field safety in new energy. They focused on advancements in fire safety technology and public safety technology, research on new energy safety, hydrogen safety, and technologies concerning the preparation, storage, transportation, and safety of hydrogen energy. They also addressed global challenges in hydrogen pipeline development and high-pressure gas-phase hydrogen embrittlement protection, as well as creating smart energy solutions that integrate hydrogen, solar, and storage technologies to safeguard global energy security.

Additionally, research was presented on the hydrogen embrittlement sensitivity of steel pressure vessels and pipelines, innovations and practices in power and energy storage battery safety technology, challenges in the industrialization of power battery safety technology, and critical technologies for thermal runaway early warning and prevention in lithium batteries. The discussions also covered challenges and considerations in electrochemical energy storage safety, the development and standardization of electrochemical storage safety in China, and the safety and development of primary energy during the energy transition.

During the conference, four specialized forums were held covering key topics: “Innovation and Practice in New Energy Battery Safety Technology,” “Safety in Multi-Scenario Applications of New Energy and Traditional Energy Integration,” “Key Challenges and Solutions in Hydrogen Safety Technology,” and “Photovoltaic Safety in Energy Transition: Risks, Standards, and Innovative Solutions.”

This conference is part of a series of events focused on new energy science initiated by the new energy power system team at Tsinghua University, aimed at exploring new pathways for the integration of new energy science and emerging fields, and promoting academic innovation, technological breakthroughs, and industrial applications. The 2025 New Energy Safety Technology Conference aims to build a high-end academic dialogue platform for new energy safety technology and to promote the integration of fundamental research and applied technology.
