The “2025 China Sustainable Fuel Industry Summit” was held in Changsha, gathering numerous industry experts. The two-day summit commenced on April 19, focusing on the theme “Empowering Energy Law to Create New Productive Forces.” It aimed to consolidate top industry talent to contribute to global energy transition through Chinese solutions.
This summit is notable as the first industry event in China to center around the Energy Law and the entire methanol fuel industry chain. It brought together leading experts, prominent enterprises, and government officials to discuss breakthroughs in sustainable fuel technology and pathways for industrial implementation, aiding the green energy revolution.
Jiang Bing, former Director of the Planning Department of the National Energy Administration and Chair of the Carbon Neutrality Committee of the China Energy Research Society, emphasized in his opening speech the need to accelerate the energy revolution to achieve the dual carbon goals of "30-60" and to promote the integrated development of green fuels like hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol.
During the keynote speeches, Jiang presented on "The Integrated Development of Green Hydrogen, Ammonia, and Methanol in Energy Reform," proposing the establishment of a low-carbon energy system that utilizes multiple complementary energy sources. Liu Mingbo, President of the Yunnan Clean Fuel Association, highlighted that innovation is the driving force behind building a clean energy system, calling for collaborative efforts to overcome technological bottlenecks.
Cao Ning, Director of Network Development at Geely Methanol Hydrogen Energy Company, shared practical experiences from Geely's national layout of methanol vehicles, suggesting a "vehicle-station-network" collaborative development model. Professor Xiao Guoxing from East China University of Political Science and Law discussed the profound impact of the Energy Law on the development of private enterprises, emphasizing the crucial role of entrepreneurial spirit in energy transition.
Experts and scholars also engaged in in-depth analyses on topics such as international experience, risks related to administrative penalties, and compliance in gas station operations, providing forward-looking insights for the industry.
In the afternoon, the summit shifted focus to discussions on technical standards and industrial practices. Liu Ke, an international academician from the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering, called for the establishment of a national standard for green methanol that aligns with China's specific conditions. Wu Yuelong, Secretary-General of the National Standards Committee for Alcohol and Ether Fuels, provided detailed updates on the development of standards like the "Application Specification for Methanol Fuel in Vehicles." Furthermore, Han Fang, a senior engineer at the China Rural Energy Industry Association, asserted that developing the methanol fuel industry is a crucial strategy for promoting rural revitalization and fostering "new productive forces" to enhance rural energy systems.
A roundtable forum was also held on April 19, themed "Green Energy Transition and the Future of the Sustainable Fuel Industry," where guests from academia and business discussed policy implementation, technological innovation, and market collaboration. There was a consensus on the need to break down industry barriers and establish an integrated ecosystem of government, industry, academia, research, and application.
On April 20, discussions continued to revolve around topics such as the conversion of methanol vehicles, construction of refueling stations, and opportunities in biomass fuel. The event featured product displays, signing ceremonies, and hands-on experiences with methanol vehicles, providing a comprehensive communication platform for attendees.
This summit was jointly organized by the Carbon Neutrality Committee of the China Energy Research Society, the Yunnan Clean Fuel Association, and Geely Zhejiang Green Dynamic Methanol Hydrogen Technology Service Co., Ltd.
