100% Green Energy Utilization Achieved at Sanjiangyuan Smart Microgrid Project Launch

100%

Green Power Utilization Reaches 100%! A ceremony was held for the full capacity grid connection of the Sanjiangyuan Green Power Intelligent Computing Integration Demonstration Microgrid Project.

On April 18, the "Sanjiangyuan Green Power Intelligent Computing Integration Demonstration Microgrid Project Full Capacity Grid Connection Ceremony" was grandly held at the Sanjiangyuan Green Power Intelligent Computing Integration Demonstration Park Phase IV, co-organized by China Unicom and Trina Solar. With a remarkable 93% green power utilization rate and a leading low-carbon grid advantage, Qinghai Province has become a natural hub for the development of green computing.

This microgrid project, the first of its kind in Qinghai Province, has been included in the top-level planning of the province's "Computing and Electricity Synergy" initiative. It employs an innovative "wind-solar-storage-charging + computing center" collaborative model, directly integrating clean energy systems such as photovoltaics, wind power, and energy storage with computing infrastructure. By supplying green power directly to the intelligent computing center, the project can provide approximately 10 million kilowatt-hours of zero-carbon electricity annually, achieving a 100% green power utilization rate and ensuring zero carbon emissions throughout the computing center's lifecycle.

This model not only serves as a practical example for Qinghai's "green power driving green computing" strategy but also offers an innovative solution for the global transition of intelligent computing centers to greener operations. Furthermore, the project utilizes a smart microgrid system, which reduces power transmission losses by shortening distances, and optimizes power scheduling leveraging the rapid response capabilities of the energy storage system. Data indicates that the microgrid model can reduce electricity costs by approximately 50% and overall operational costs by 15%, while simultaneously enhancing both energy efficiency and economic benefits. This achievement provides replicable experience for the low-carbon transformation of energy-intensive computing infrastructure.

In terms of technological innovation, the project integrates cutting-edge energy-saving technologies such as cold plate liquid cooling and intelligent bus systems, and explores a dynamic matching mechanism between green power and computing loads. As a key player in the national digital infrastructure, China Unicom, in collaboration with Trina Solar, has established the "Electricity-Computing Integration Application Innovation Center" to promote the deep integration of new energy technologies with digital infrastructure.

Both parties have stated their intention to expand cooperation in areas such as green power trading and virtual power plants in the future, aiming to build an integrated ecosystem of "source-network-load-storage-data". The successful full capacity grid connection of the Sanjiangyuan Green Power Intelligent Computing Integration Demonstration Microgrid Project, developed jointly by China Unicom and Trina Solar, marks China's dual leadership in the global green digital economy: it resolves the contradiction between the energy-intensive nature of the computing industry and the need for decarbonization, proving that a green power-driven model for high-quality computing growth is indeed feasible. Additionally, it creates an innovative paradigm for developing a high-end digital economy within ecological protection zones, with its model of "localized green power utilization - computing services nationwide" providing a template for renewable energy-rich regions such as Tibet and Xinjiang.
